  • Ben is a Tri-Golf Champion!

    Tue 18 Jun 2019

St. Ita's Golfers do so well at the Castlereagh Hills Primary Schools Tri-Golf Championships!

The St. Ita's golfers headed off to the Castlereagh Hills Tri-Golf Championships on Tuesday 11th June. It was an absolutely beautiful day and the boys and girls from St. Ita's had a great day. They all played so well buit Ben deserves a special mention as he won the overall 'Best Boy' of the Championship.

We would like to congratulate Ben on his tremendous success and indeed the whole team for the wonderful effort they showed in their attempt to win the team competition.

    Unfortunately they just missed out.

The golfing skills on display were excellent and who knows, maybe one day St. Ita's will have their very own  'World Number One golfer!

  • St. Ita's Girls unlucky in County Final!

    Sun 16 Jun 2019

St. Ita's Girls unlucky in County Final!

St. Ita's Girls' Gaelic Football team travelled to a rain soaked St. Patrick's Park, Newcastle on Saturday 15th June. The team was attempting to make history by winning their first County Championship.

Unfortunately it was not meant to be.

St. Ita's came up against Carrick Primary School from Burren who were a bigger team and the reigning champions.

However, despite the physical advantage, the St. Ita's players fought to the very end and put in  a tremendous performance. The passing, catching, soloing, tackling and shooting skills on display were unbelievable despite the terrible conditions.

This was the first county final St.Itas's has been involved in and judging by the wonderful talent on display it will not be the last. .

We would like to thank the parents who attended on Saturday, coached the team and inspired the girls to do their very best.

The team was also very grateful for the support provided by parents and past pupils. Thank you.

We would like to thank Mr McConville for the tremendous effort he has put in to developing Gaelic football within St.Ita's; both boys and girls teams are progressing so well.

The last word must go to the girls who performed with so much tenacity on Saturday. St. Ita's is very proud of you and the success that you have achieved this year. Well done to everyone in the entire squad.

You are stars of the future! Croke Park beckons for every single one of you.

Be proud of what you have achieved this year.

    Maith Déanta Cailíní

  • St.Ita's Girls Gaelic Football team reach All County Final!

    Fri 14 Jun 2019

Our Girls Gaelic Football team will make a little bit of St. Ita’s Sporting History this Saturday when they contest the Primary School All County Final for the first time.

The girls have played a total of 6 games in the competition to get to this stage and have remained unbeaten throughout.

In the initial group stages, the squad played fantastically well and won tough games against schools like St. Joseph’s PS, Carryduff and St. Malachy’s PS, Kilcoo. Their brilliant performances earned them a deserved spot in the East Down Final.

The East Down Final was a closely contested match and both teams were level when the whistle blew for half time. A super second half performance meant the girls once again came out on top, beating St. Malachy’s PS, Castlewellan on a score line of 1-6 to 0-5.

Our opponents tomorrow are the South Down Winners; Carrick PS, Burren.

The St. Ita’s girls have a great chance to take the trophy home tomorrow and we would appreciate as much support as possible travelling to the final. It will be a proud day for St. Ita’s Primary School.

Our match starts at 12:45pm in Castlewellan GAC

Address of pitch- 30 Circular Rd, Castlewellan, BT31 9ED

  • Two P7 boys selected to represent Cumann na mBunscol in Dublin!

    Thu 13 Jun 2019

Two of our Primary 7 boys, Rory O'Donnell and Jake Skelton, have been chosen to represent Cumann na mBunscol, Belfast in their annual Hurling and Gaelic Football match against a Dublin Schools Select team.

Both boys attended trials over a number of weeks. Their hard work, dedication and skills meant that they impressed the coaches and  they were delighted when they found out they had made the final squad of 15 players.

We know that they will represent St. Ita’s  with pride as part of the Cumann na mBunscol team when they face Dublin later this week.

    Good Luck boys!

  • Libraries NI 'Big Summer Read 2019'

    Sun 09 Jun 2019

Libraries NI ‘Big Summer Read 2019’ takes place from Monday 1st July until Saturday 31st August in all 96 libraries and 16 mobile libraries throughout Northern Ireland.

This annual reading initiative is a free programme offering fun and interactive ways to keep children and teens reading during the summer holidays. It’s a great way to address the ‘Summer Slide’, a decline in children’s reading skills and comprehension that occurs if they are not engaged with reading or activities over the summer months.

    This year’s theme

The title for this year is ‘Slide into Summer Reading’ and as well as encouraging children to read as many books as possible, we’ll have a programme of exciting events and free activities linked to all sorts of adventures! Children who take part will receive a certificate at the end of the Summer.
