Ashtyn Wins Newsdesk ‘Happiness’ Competition

Primary school pupils from all over Northern Ireland were invited by C2K NewsDesk to participate in a competition called ‘Happiness’. The pupils had to write in detail using good adjectives and adverbs about the things that make them feel happy. They also had to find photos of things that make them feel this way and upload them to the C2K NewsDesk.

Out of approximately one thousand entries Ashtyn (P5) came joint FIRST with four other pupils. What a tremendous achievement! David Huntley, Editor of the C2K NewsDesk, arrived in school during the week to present Ashtyn with her prize. Five pupils from St Ita's were runners up in the competition, Aoife, Bláthnait, Ciara, Conor and Gabriel. They did so well. David is really impressed with the quality of comments St. Ita’s boys and girls are uploading to NewsDesk. Lets keep up the excellent work!

St Ita's Primary School

St. Ita’s Cross Country teams competed with great determination in their races during the week. We had a 7^th place for Jake Skelton in the boys’ race and Sophie Kelly-Bradley finished 10^th in the girls race out of a field of 60. The other team members gave it their best effort and finished with respectable places so the team score should be really good when the results are published. These should be out within the next few days. Well done boys and girls for representing St. Ita’s so well.

Amelia wins Dundonald International Ice Bowl Schools Art Competition

Over twenty primary schools participated in a Schools Colouring Competition to win a day out to Dundonald International Ice Bowl. Open to school children from Primary One to Primary Three, judges at Dundonald International Ice Bowl were overwhelmed by both the number of entrants and the creative skill displayed on some of this year’s entrants, with some children incorporating glitter, pompoms, feathers and more in their design. Following difficult judging, one winner was selected from each Primary school year. The winners were invited to Dundonald International Ice Bowl for a congratulatory lunch, where they were presented with their prize by Operations Manager, Mark Kane. Pictured with Mark Kane is the Primary One winner, Amelia, from St Ita’s. Well done Amelia, you are a Star!

• Applications for Nursery and Primary One: The application process for entry into Nursery and Primary One in September 2019 has changed.

  The Education Authority has recently informed schools of a new portal for parents to apply online. The Go Live date for the new digital admissions is Wednesday 2 January 2019 at 10am. ‘Walking Bus’ and ‘Ditch the Dark’

As part of our ongoing work with the Sustrans ‘Active School Travel’ programme we are holding a ‘Walking Bus & Ditch the Dark’ day on Thursday 25^th October. We will be holding a special walk to school to raise awareness of safe travel as the days become darker. We are encouraging children and parents to walk to school together looking as bright, shiny and reflective as possible to try and ‘Ditch the Dark’. Family members are encouraged to join the fun and walk to school as part of our ‘Walking Bus’. Families should meet at Cairnshill Park & Ride at 8:15am and walk together to school alongside staff members and our Sustrans School Officer Claire. Children must be kept under the safe supervision of parents until safely escorted to the school playgrounds. Juice and biscuits will be available for parents and pupils that take part. Pupils are being asked to bring in £1 on the day to help raise funds for our Sustrans school safety equipment. Thank you for your support.

We would like to remind parents that due to a number of our children having

allergies to nuts, St Ita’s is a NUT FREE ZONE. Parents must ensure that

nuts, peanuts and food containing nuts, e.g. nut yogurts, nut sandwich

spreads or cereal bars are not sent in for break or lunch snacks.
