St. Ita's Closure

Following an inspection of the school, surrounding side roads and taking account of the latest Met. Office forecast, St Ita's Primary School will be closed today, Friday 22nd March 2013.

P3 Sacrament of Reconciliation

On Thursday 21st March the P3 boys and girls celebrated the Sacrament of Reconciliation in our Parish Church. It was a beautiful service.
After the Sacrament the children received a wooden cross as a special gift from the Parish, which they will treasure.
Well done to all the P3 children! Your teachers and parents are very proud of you!
A special thanks to all the priests who attended the service.

St.Patrick's Day Concerts

St.Patrick's Day was celebrated in St.Ita's on Friday 15th March.

Two fantastic concerts took place in our assembly hall. Individuals from every class showcased their talents and performed Irish songs, dances or recited poetry.

Mrs Browne's Boys & Girls Triumph at the Quiz Night

he annual PTFA Quiz Night was held on Friday night in the Ivanhoe Hotel. There was a great turnout with 17 teams competing this year and as usual the craic was good.

Quiz Master Conor Mackle’s new PA system made its first public appearance, which made sure even the noisy teams at the back of the room could hear all the questions.

After 7 rounds of questions, the top of the leader board was very congested with only a few points separating the top half dozen.

It took a tie-break question to decide 2nd and 3rd place but the winners, who had been around the top of the leader board all evening were a team called, very aptly,
Mrs Browne’s Boys & Girls.

The PTFA would like to thank everyone for coming out and showing such great support for the event and for the many ballot tickets sold. Watch this space for news on the total amount raised.

A big thank you must go to Conor Mackle who makes our Quiz such a great event. His expertise in running the Quiz makes the organisation of the night so easy for the PTFA – thanks a million, Conor.

P2 help to create an amazing Nativity Scene for the Hilton Hotel Belfast

Every December a local art teacher called Pat Bennett from St.Gerard's ERC works with children to create a Nativity scene for the Hilton Hotel in Belfast. Each year the huge figures are inspired by the work of a particular artist. This year the Nativity figures centred on the work of the German / Swiss artist Paul Klee.

Mrs Bennett won the N.Ireland teaching award for 'Lifetime achievement' and invited Miss Kettle to join her in a joint art project, following the awards ceremony in October.

The boys and girls in P2 had great fun decorating sheep using a range of materials.
The finished masterpiece is truly magnificent and will be in the foyer of the Hilton Hotel from 21st December 2012 to 6th January 2013.

Mrs Browne's Visit to Shanghai

Mrs Browne recently visited Shanghai, China, for a week. She was accompanied by principals and teachers from local Belfast schools and schools from further a field. She had the opportunity of visiting schools which included Jiading qu Boata in Zhong Xue near Shanghai (photos below). This visit was sponsored by the Chinese Language Council International (Hanban) and the Confucious Institute with the aim of promoting the Chinese language and culture world wide. St Ita’s is very grateful to Aquinas Grammar and the University of Ulster for the invitation to join this most worthwhile project. St Ita’s now looks forward to our primary school curriculum being enriched with new experiences which include Mandarin, Taiji, Calligraphy and Chinese Dance.

St. Ita's Whole School Nativity and Carol Service

P5 pupils lead the Whole School Nativity and Carol Service. St. Ita's Brass Band and the String & Woodwind Ensemble played Christmas Carols. P5 performed 'Hosanna Rock' supported by St. Ita's School Choir. This beautiful Carol Service was enjoyed by all of our school community in a packed Church. Please view some of the images below.
