Neil Griffith comes to N.Ireland to give two workshops at St.Ita's primary school
Wednesday 26th September was a very exciting day in St.Ita's primary school.  Not only was it European Languages Day but it was on this day that  Neil Griffith, the award winning author,  kindly agreed to fly to Belfast for one day to give two exclusive workshops at St.Ita's PS on how to make reading MAGICAL!

The staff thoroughly enjoyed their thought provoking workshop in the afternoon and over a hundred parents attended the highly entertaining workshop in the evening.  Neil offered advice to parents and staff on how to make reading more dynamic, 'alive' and fun at home and in school.

Thank you to all who attended and to Neil Griffith for his hilarious presentation and inspiring words of wisdom.
  • European Day of Languages

    Wed 26 Sep 2012
Pupils explored and celebrated many different cultures within Europe on Wednesday.  Many year groups marked the special day by dressing up, learning phrases in new languages and tasting tradition foods from Switzerland, France, Spain, Italy and Croatia.

We were delighted to welcome four students from Aquinas who taught our P6 and P7 pupils some key words in French and Spanish.

    Fri 21 Sep 2012

On Friday morning, Sergeant Eilish came to St. Ita's primary school to talk to the P2's about her very important job of being a police officer.

The children got to find out all about her uniform and why she had to wear and carry certain things, such as her hat, fluorescent jacket, handcuffs and 'walkie-talkie'. The three P2 classes had lots of interesting questions to ask Sergeant Eilish about her job and got to find out a vast array of information about why police officers are so important.

The P2's would like to say a huge thank-you to Sergeant Eilish for coming to visit us and thank you for all the 'goodies' you left for us!!!

  • Aidan's mum visits Miss McQuaid's P2 class

    Tue 18 Sep 2012

On Tuesday 18th September Miss Mc Quaid’s class were delighted to welcome Doctor Ceara into their class to talk about her very important job of being a doctor.

The children had lots of fun exploring in Doctor Ceara’s special bag as well as getting to see how some very important equipment was used; such as a stethoscope, an Aero chamber and an Epi-pen.
Some of the children had great fun helping ‘Winnie the Pooh’ get a puff from his inhaler to help his asthma.
Doctor Ceara was very generous and gave all the children their own stethoscope, syringes and a special ‘Dr Badge’ to keep at home.

The boys and girls would like to thank Aidan for inviting his mummy in to speak to the class, and say a big thank you to Doctor Ceara for answering all of their tricky questions about doctors!!!

  • Tana's Mummy visits Miss Kettle's P2

    Thu 13 Sep 2012

On Thursday 13th September the boys and girls in Miss Kettle's class welcomed  some very special visitors to their classroom - 27 teddy bears AND Tana's Mummy!
The current P2 topic is 'People Who Help Us' and so the boys and girls loved listening to Nurse Scott and took the opportunity to ask her lots of tricky questions about her job.

Nurse Scott was very kind and gave everyone in the class a bandage and a syringe which they quickly put to good use with their "sick" teddy bears.  The boys and girls could be heard whispering words of encouragement to their teddy bears as they gently wrapped their broken limbs in bandages and gave them their injections.

Thankfully all 27 teddy bears  are recovering well  ...thanks to the wonderful training provided by Tana's Mummy.

    Thank you Nurse Scott!!!
