St Vincent de Paul Hampers
This year St Ita’s pupils brought in enough food items to make up 30 hampers. A big 'Thank You' to parents for your amazing generosity. Thanks also to Mrs Seeds and Mrs Bacova who wrapped most of the boxes in festive paper. Mrs Duffy’s P7 class assisted by Peter, did a great job of sorting the food items and the PTFA ladies kindly gave up their time to pack the hampers. The hampers were collected today by St Vincent de Paul staff (assisted by Sean and Peter) and will be distributed to families in need before Christmas. Many thanks to all those who helped. Brilliant team work!
What a ‘Brilliant Performance!
The Junior Choir was invited to perform at the ‘Big Light Switch On’ event at the Four Winds restaurant. The children sang a variety of Christmas carols and had fun being on stage. This is always a lovely event to begin our Christmas season and the children really enjoyed having the opportunity to perform in front of Santa. Despite the freezing conditions the junior choir did themselves proud, sang beautifully and melted the hearts of everyone in the audience.

Over the last seven weeks Mrs Fogarty’s P6 class has participated in PWC's ‘Hive Hackers’ programme which enabled the pupils to code in a fun and structured
environment. The pupils really enjoyed their coding sessions and would like to thank PWC and Wesley from ‘Hive Hackers’ for the their great day out to celebrate all that they had learned about coding.
Well done to P7 pupils Dylan Lunny and Peter Murchan who recently represented St Ita’s Primary School at the Swim Ulster Schools Cup and Championships in the Aurora in Bangor. With hundreds of competitors coming from all parts of Ulster from Letterkenny to Ballyshannon, competition was fierce! Both boys did themselves proud in their respective heats and although no medals were won, it was a fantastic experience!
Congratulations to Dearbhla McCormick in P5 who won a prize in a recent ‘Animals and You’ competition. She had to design her own ‘Minion'. Click on the link below to see her winning entry.

‘Maths in the City’ – Belfast
As part of the celebrations for ‘Maths Week Ireland’, an event is being held this Saturday 21stOctober from 11.00am-4.30pm at the Ulster Museum, Botanic, Belfast.
This event will feature local and internationally renowned mathematicians entertaining the public with mazes, maths magic, puzzles and card tricks both inside and outside the Ulster Museum.
The event is free and all the family are welcome from tiny tots to mums, dads and grandparents. It is our experience that adults often get as much enjoyment out of these puzzles as their children.
Please remember you can view additional maths resources on our school website at the following location:

Over the last seven weeks Mrs Fogarty’s P6 class have participated in PWC's ‘Hive Hackers’ programme which enables the pupils to Code in a fun and structured environment. The pupils explored the concept of programming, developed ‘sequential algorithms’, practised converting sets of actions into a ‘single loop’, and were introduced to the concept of ‘debugging’, an essential element of learning to program. Through a series of activities, the pupils also explored and developed their understanding of binary and explored the ‘conditional statement’, a code that functions differently depending on the conditions it encounters. In the final session today the pupils had the opportunity to apply all of the coding skills they’ve learned to create an animated story. The pupils really enjoyed their coding sessions and would like to thank PWC and Wesley from ‘Hive Hackers’ for the opportunity to take part in this program.
